Project Brief:

A place or identity is chosen for which a “design intervention” is required. The identity and related features (e.g. menus, signage, etc.) are to be overhauled or created if none exists. A process book is then to be designed which details the steps we have gone through in order to arrive at our decisions.

Design Solution:

I chose to design an identity/identification system for the beaches and beach parks in Hawaiʻi. I decided to focused on four areas on Oʻahu: Waimānalo Beach Park, Sandy Beach Park, Makapuʻu Beach Park, and Kaupō Beach Park; each with a personalized identity/mark based on certain defining characteristics. Accompanying main signage would be displayed at the entrance to the beach and would feature historical information and details about safe or typical activities, as well as warning notifications.
